BBVA creates Information Security & Engineering Risk unit

BBVA has appointed Álvaro Garrido to lead its new Information Security & Engineering Risk (IS&ER) unit, which will coordinate the Group’s information security, cybersecurity and engineering risks.

The unit will bring together the functions of cybersecurity, fraud management, business continuity, among others. As head of the unit, Garrido will report directly to Ricardo Moreno, global director of Engineering at BBVA.

Garrido has had a long career as head of technology in the financial sector, with previous positions including Head of Group Information Technology at Nordea, and Group Head of Technology at Standard Chartered Bank.

BBVA has also created a new unit called Engineering Internal Control (EIC) within its Strategy & Control Engineering department, headed by Pablo Martín Almaraz, which will integrate specialist risk control functions in the department.
